Bridal Party on the dock at sunset

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Jamie and Manny became husband and wife. The afternoon wedding at a local church was followed by a dinner reception at the Boathouse at Sunday Park’s Garden Pavilion.  As the Bridal Party arrived at the Boathouse, the photographer led them from their limousine to the dock for some terrific sunset photos. David Burke, from Nards Professional DJ service http://www.nardsrichmond.com/ introduced the Bridal Party in to the reception, where the guests were enjoying some appetizers (including the Boathouse Crab Dip) and beverages from the bar. After a welcome by the father of the bride, Jamie and Manny took a few moments to visit with their guests before dinner. The Buffet menu was enjoyed by all of the guests, especially the Tilapia Royale and the Sirloin steak with Mushroom Marsala sauce. Toasts were given by the Best Man, Manny’s older brother, and by the Maid of Honor, Jamie’s best friend since college. Jamie and Manny chose a wedding cake from Westhampton Pastry Shop, with tiered layers of pound cake and butter rum cake. Gorgeous Fall weather, fun guests, a beautiful bride, and a happy groom were all to be thankful for on this wonderful wedding day.

Golden Hammer Award

November 22nd, 2009

The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods presented its annual Golden Hammer Awards last week for the best renovations in the Richmond area.rl

The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing won the award for best commercial renovation!! The project renovated the former power plant on East Old Main Street as a restaurant with scenic views of the James River and downtown. The power plant’s industrial facade and its iconic smokestack were preserved. Modern architectural elements were integrated into the historic building. Its collapsed top-floor roof and crumbling brick walls were replaced with tall windows and a butterfly roof and wrap-around staircase were constructed on the exterior.

The awards program is now in its 10th year.

The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods exists to serve the City of Richmond through the revitalization of its oldest neighborhoods and achieves this by promoting– to individuals of all income levels– the purchase and renovation of vacant and abandoned properties and advocates for the preservation of the cultural and historic assets that give our old neighborhoods their unique character.

Meeting for Lunch at the River

November 20th, 2009

Instead of sitting in a conference room, have your business meeting with a view.  Plated Luncheons are available for groups of 20 or more at both of our waterfront locations: along the banks of the James River at the Boathouse at Rocketts Landing, or overlooking Swift Creek Reservoir at the Boathouse at Sunday Park. The only challenge is keeping your eyes on the presentation, not gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing is available for special event lunches for 20 or more guests. The ladies at Monday’s event were treated to a lunch of Miso Glazed Salmon and Strip steak. Dessert was a cheesecake cordial – cheesecake, chocolate mousse, raspberry coulis, frresh rasperries and fresh whipped cream served in a cordial glass.  The riverfront restaurant was a perfect place to be on this 70 degree, sunny Autumn day.

Bride and bridesmaids walk from the dressing rooms to the Ceremony Gardens.

On a crisp, yet beautiful November afternoon, Stacy and Billy exchanged their vows in the lakefront Ceremony Gardens. Mr. Ernest Irby officiated at the outdoor ceremony. Capturing the memories of the day was Eric Miller of Miller Photogaphy www.miller-photo.com. During the reception in the Gardens Pavilion, the guests were served a dinner of Chicken Marsala and Steak, Tomato & Gorgonzola Alfredo. After dinner, the guests enjoyed an evening of dancing, and concluded with heartfelt toasts.

Surrounded by family and friends, Sarah and Chris said “I do” inside the Gardens pavilion. The room was decorated with hundreds of rose petals and hydrangea. After the ceremony, the Boathouse staff moved the dinner tables into the room, and the guests enjoyed a BBQ buffet. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the bride and groom treated the guests to a tower of cupcakes.

Rockfish are Running!

November 6th, 2009

Rockfish and Shrimp

Rockfish can live up to 30 years: The biggest on record was a 125-pound female, landed off North Carolina in 1891.

In the mid-1980s, rockfish numbers were so decimated by overfishing that Atlantic coastal states imposed a moratorium. Luckily for us the populations surged, and by 1995 the fishing ban ended!!

You can enjoy these three savory rockfish dishes through the end of November for just $18.95 each.

ROCKFISH & LOBSTER RISOTTO seared fresh rockfish on lobster and wild mushroom risotto with a hint of Cognac, fried leek garnish

ROCKFISH CHARLESTON  sautéed fresh rockfish and fried oysters with sautéed spinach on Tillamook cheddar and Tasso ham grits

ROCKFISH & SHRIMP  hoisin glazed grilled rockfish on shichimi shrimp and vegetable fried rice (red pepper spice) with toasted sesame seeds, unagi drizzle (Teriyaki), kaiware sprouts
